Hello, there! I’m a 3rd year University of Miami student majoring in international studies with minors in mathematics and psychology. I have been studying abroad since my 2nd year as an undergraduate.
I was fortunate enough to embark on a journey of exploration in Asia while studying in two global cities. From August 2017 to July 2018, I studied at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan and from August 2018 to the present moment, I’m studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. I have traveled to too many cities to keep track of and found myself over and over again. I’ve been to more countries than states in the U.S. During this time I discovered much about the world and how to adapt in environments drastically different from what I was used to, having lived in one state for 19 years of my life. I can’t thank my family, friends, university, and scholarships (Gilman, JASSO, AATJ) enough for this opportunity that has changed my life in immeasurable ways. I was able to achieve goals I had once only thought of as dreams (visit & research at Dazai Osamu’s museum in Kanegi, Aomori), traveled to places I had never thought of going to (Vietnam), and experienced things I never thought I would (stay at the grounds of a Buddhist temple overnight).
This is the beginning of a life of travel and exploration because I’m hooked (as you can clearly tell students don’t typically spend 4 semesters abroad). Sorry mom, “home” will likely always be (physically) far away.
This blog includes bits and pieces of my experiences during this period of immense, dramatic change/growth and instability. I hope someone can learn something from the things I share.
*disclaimer: while writing my blog I don’t pay too much attention to grammar, I just wanted to record my thoughts. Therefore, I apologize for any mistakes/errors I make in advance*
Thank you for listening to what I have to say.
